Ajay Singh wins 3rd gold for India in Commonwealth Weightlifting C’ships, qualifies for 2022 CWG

Ajay Singh won India’s third gold at the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships here, winning the men’s 81kg category.

Singh lifted a total of 322 kg and also set the national snatch record (147 kg) on ​​Sunday night.

He became the third Indian weightlifter to qualify directly for the Commonwealth Games the following year in Birmingham.

Jeremy Lalrinnunga (67kg) and Achinta Sheuli (73kg) have already qualified for the 2022 CWG, winning gold in their competitions.

Gold winners in all categories of the championship go directly to the 2022 CWG Birmingham, while the rest can go to the Games through the rankings.

In the women’s 71kg category, Harjinder Kaur and Lalchkhankhim won silver and bronze medals on Monday, respectively, with total lifts of 211kg (90 + 121) and 209kg (90 + 119).

Popi Khazarika also won silver in the up to 59 kg weight category with a total lift of 189 kg (84 + 105).
