Anant Singh sentenced to 10 years in prison over AK-47 retrieval case

RJD MLA Anant Singh, who was found guilty in a case where police seized an AK-47 assault rifle and other weapons from his home, was today sentenced to 10 years in prison by an MP-MLA court in Patna.

Anant Singh, Bahubali MLA RJD from Mokama, is currently in Ber Prison in Patna.

On 16 August 2019, a group of Patna police led by then-city inspector Lipi Singh raided Anant Singh’s house in his home village of Nadwa under Barh police station. According to the police version, the raid group seized an AK-47 assault rifle. two hand grenades and 26 AK-47 live rounds from his home.

During the consideration of this case, the prosecution presented 13 witnesses, whose testimony was recorded in court. The defense also presented 34 witnesses.

The house in Nadwa village belongs to Anant Singh, but he did not live in it. The house was given to the caretaker to look after the premises.

The AK-47 assault rifle was stored in a shed behind a large box. Hand grenades were seized from a nearby hut.

Police said the AK-47 was evenly wrapped in a plastic bag and then layers of charcoal to avoid detection by metal detectors during transport.
