Aryan Khan to be lodged in the jail that once housed Sanjay Dutt, Ajmal Kasab, Chhota Rajan, and Abu Salem : Bollywood News – Bollywood Hungama

A request for bail for Shah Rukh Khan’s son, Arian Khan, was rejected by a Mumbai court on Friday. The court also rejected bail requests for co-defendants Munmun Dhamech and Arbaaz Merchant. They were arrested on October 3 after the Bureau of Narcotics Control raided a cruise ship bound for Goa from Mumbai. Since their bail was denied, Arian Khan and the other defendants will be imprisoned on Arthur Road in Mumbai. Arian Khan will not receive any special treatment and will be treated like any other suspect.

Mumbai Central Prison, commonly known as Arthur Road Prison, was built in 1926 and is the largest and oldest prison in Mumbai. The prison occupies 2 acres of land and was declared a central prison in 1972. Although the prison was originally built to house 800 inmates, the site is often reported to be overcrowded. In 2021, eight new barracks were added to the hail, in which another 200 prisoners could be accommodated.

Several notable prisoners have visited the prison during the year, including:

Sanjay Dutt: The actor went to jail for his role in the 1993 bombings. He was held in a maximum security cell next to the cell where Abu Jundal was detained.

Ajmal Kasab: He was the only terrorist from Pakistan who was caught alive during the 11/26 attacks in Mumbai. In November 2012, Kasab was hanged at Yervada prison in Pune.

Chhota Rajan: He was temporarily housed in Arthur Road Prison and is currently in Tihar Prison awaiting trial in almost 7 cases.

Abu Salem: He was convicted in the 1993 bombing case. He was later transferred to Taloja Prison after being attacked by gangster Mustafa Dossa at Arthur Road Prison.

Mustafa Dossa: He was also convicted in the 1993 bombing case. He died in 2017 at JJ Hospital in Mumbai due to cardiac arrest.

Arun Gavli: He was convicted of the murder of the leader and corporate figure Shiv Sen Kamlakar Jamsandekar in 2012. He was initially held at Arthur Road Prison and then transferred to Nagpur Central Prison, where he is serving a life sentence.
