Day after Prez nomination, Droupadi Murmu sweeps floor at Odisha temple

One day after being named BJPNational Democratic Alliance presidential candidate and former governor of Jharkhand Draupadi Murmu offered prayers at the Jagannath Rairangpur Temple in Mayurbhanj, Odisha on Wednesday morning.

The presidential candidate was filmed sweeping the temple floor before offering her prayers. Murmu also visited a tribal shrine called Jahira later that day, the news agency reported. API reported.

The 64-year-old man, a member of the Santhal community in Odisha, was nominated as the NDA’s presidential candidate on Tuesday evening, just hours after the former Union Minister Yashwant Sinha was announced as joint candidate by major opposition parties including Congress, TMC and NCP.

Murmu’s election is almost certain, given that the numbers are stacking heavily in favor of the ruling NDA. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that Murmu “dedicated her life to the service of society” and said that he was “confident that she will become a great president”.

“Smt. Draupadi Murmu Ji has dedicated her life to serving society and empowering the poor, oppressed and marginalized. She has rich administrative experience and was an outstanding governor. I am confident that she will become a great President of our country,” Modi wrote on Twitter.
