Actress Florence Pugh (of Black Widow-fame) will headline a new Netflix limited series based on John Steinbeck’s 1952 book. East of Paradise.

According to DiversityZoe Kazan from big sick-Fame writes the script and is the show’s executive producer.

The action takes place in California’s Salinas Valley during the period from the Civil War to the end of the First World War. East of Paradise tells the intertwined stories of the Hamilton family, an Irish immigrant family with nine children, and the Trask family, led by wealthy Adam Trask.

The story ultimately focuses on the Trask family and the drama around Adam, his wife Katie, and their sons Cal and Aron.

Details about Pugh’s character have yet to be confirmed.

Interestingly, Zoe Kazan’s grandfather, Elia Kazan, made a film adaptation of Steinbeck’s novel in 1955. The film was a critical success and also earned Jo Van Fleet an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Cathy.
