Historic school and college buildings built in the pre-independence period will be declared protected monuments in Kerala, the Minister of State for Museums and Archeology said Thursday.

Answering a question in the House of Representatives, the minister also noted that Kacheri Malika on the campus of the Union of Christian Colleges in Aluva in the Ernakulam area has already been declared a protected monument by the State Department of Archeology.

Kacheri Malika was an old mansion where Alangad Taluk Kacheri once functioned. Devarkovil said the first phase of initiatives to preserve the old Payannur Police Station, Kannur CSI Church and Chettuvakotta in Thrissur, historic buildings designated as protected monuments, has been completed.
