Tomorrow is International Yoga Day (June 21), but you can get started with yoga without attending classes online or in person. All you need is an Amazon Alexa-enabled device and some space in your home to start your yoga journey. Here’s how you can get started.

Yoga with Shilpa Shetty

You may not have an instructor, but that doesn’t mean a celebrity can’t be your virtual instructor. Amazon Alexa has a feature that allows you to take lessons from actor, producer, and fitness enthusiast Shilpa Shetty. All you have to do is say “Alexa, open yoga Shilpa Shetty” and you will start taking classes from a Bollywood celebrity.

Practice yoga with the sounds of nature in the background

Like most other activities, yoga is best done in a calm and distraction-free environment, but this is much easier said than done. But Alexa can help dampen the ambient noise in your home a bit so you can focus on your yoga poses. Just say “Alexa, open nature sounds” or “Alexa, turn on ocean/rain/forest sounds” and your Alexa-enabled device will play soothing sounds.

Yoga with appropriate music

You can make your yoga practice more interesting by playing the right music. Set the mood for your next yoga class by saying “Alexa, turn on yoga music” or “Alexa, turn on meditation music” and your device will start playing yoga-appropriate music.

Sometimes it can be hard to keep track of your yoga workout, and that’s what the Alexa Headspace skill is for. With it, you can access a new guided meditation every day, as well as sleep exercises to help you stay calm and relaxed. Ask “Alexa, open Headspace” and try new modes every day.
