East Bengal (SCEB) and Jamshedpur have been inseparable in squandering and scoring, starting their campaign with a 1-1 draw in the Indian Super League at Tilak Maidan stadium on Sunday.
Croatian Franjo Prse opened the East Bengal score early in the first half, before England’s Peter Hartley equalized in stoppage time.
The way both teams found the target was similar, as center-backs – Prce and Hartley – provided finishing corner kicks.
East Bengal shed first blood in the 17th minute when Croatian striker Antonio Perosevic put Prse in the goal after scoring a goal from JFC goalkeeper T.P. Rehenesha after a corner. Prse’s volley hit the spot after hitting the head of the Lithuanian JFC striker Nerijus Valskis.
The team from Calcutta appeared to double the lead after 33 minutes, but Perosevic’s attempt was ruled out.
Jamshedpur tried to return to the game in the last minutes of the first half and found a corner in the second minute of stoppage time.
Alexander Lima sent a magnificent fleet to Valskis, who sent it to Hartley. The Englishman nodded the ball past the goalkeeper to bring Jamshedpur to the level.
In the second half, both teams realized a couple of chances, but failed to convert them in the last third.
Result: East Bengal 1 (Franjo Prce 17) drew with Jamshedpur FC 1 (Peter Hartley 45 + 2).
