‘It was a collective failure of group’: Rohit Sharma on why Mumbai Indians endured a poor run in UAE-leg of IPL 2021

Defenders of champions Mumbai may have been knocked out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2021, but one person who stole the show with his adorable throw was batsman Ishan Kishan. During match # 55 against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Abi Dhabi, the Jharkhand youth scored 16 50 goals and then added 34 wounds to his rounds tally before falling victim to Umran Malik.

Ishan’s bounce set the stage for the competition. Suryakumar Yadav later finished the race with 82 goals with 40 goals, while Rohit Sharma & Co posted a whopping 235 runs. In response, the Rebels were capped at 193 out of 8.

After a stunning victory in 42 runs, MI skipper Rohit praised Ishan for being instrumental in the team. Speaking at the post-match presentation, the captain said: “He (Ishan Kishan) is a very talented player, the right position is very important for him. Today’s game was perfect for him. He likes this situation. It was great to see it from the other end, ”Rohit said at the post-match presentation.

Rohit talked about his team’s failures in the 2021 IPL in the UAE, highlighting how the hiatus following the outbreak of Covid-19 cases in the India stage has hampered MI’s development.

“This time we had seasonal and off-season. We’ve had incredible success as a franchise. It was great to be a part of this organization, we can be very proud of that. We were gaining momentum in Delhi and there was a break that didn’t help the team. It was the group’s collective failure, ”Rohit said.

Following this victory, MI finished their journey to the IPL 2021 in fifth place in the points table with 14 points. They missed a playoff spot due to a lower net running speed (+0.116) than the Kolkata Knight Riders (+0.587), who are currently ranked fourth and the last team to make the playoffs.
