Jugjugg Jeeyo director Raj Mehta: I don’t think anyone knows what’s going to work

Director Raj Mehta says he is “worried” about the release of his second feature film.”Jagjagg Jiyoas it opens theatrically at a time when there is so much uncertainty about the box office performance of Hindi films.

The comedy drama produced by Dharma Productions is titled Varun Dhawan, Anil Kapoor, Kiara Advani and Neetu Kapoor. Sellers have high hopes for the film, which is set to premiere on June 24th to continue the success of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 in a year that saw only two other hits in the Hindi film industry.”Gangubai Katiawadi” as well as “Kashmiri files“.

In an interview with PTI, Mehta said that the lackluster performance of the Hindi films “added to the edginess”.

“Every week there are new theories about what films will work and what won’t. Someone says that big films are in trend, someone says that this is not entirely true. There is a lot of uncertainty, I don’t think anyone knows what will work. Does it add to the anxiety? Absolutely.

“Because you can never be sure you’ve made a movie that will be successful. It’s my second film, I’m continuing my successful debut, so that’s also a pressure. But times are such that you don’t know what will happen,” said the director of Good Newwz.

Mehta said he was assured by the producer. Karan Joharthat he is pleased with the finished film.

“There is nervousness, but I am also excited. What comforts me is that the person to whom I am responsible, the producer of the film, enjoyed the film, saw it and loved it, ”he added.

“Jagjug Jiyo” follows the story of a father and son who discover that both want to divorce their wives.

Mehta, formerly in charge Akshay KumarKareena Kapoor Khan’s lead actor Good Newwz said his latest film is more “dramatic” than his debut.

“Jugjugg Jeeyo” is more dramatic than “Good Newwz”. Good Newwz was an outright comedy, with the exception of the third act. Here we are talking about marriage, relationships and divorces, so there is more drama, especially in the second half.

“There is also a strong female point of view that comes into play. There’s actually more to the movie than the trailer suggested. All this was done in an entertaining way,” he added.

Mehta decided to work on the film a month before the release of Good Newwz in 2019, after stumbling upon a story by Anurag Singh and Sumita Bateji.

The director collaborated with his Good Newwz screenwriter Rishhab Sharrma to flesh out the script as he felt it had “solid comedic and emotional potential”.

Despite the director’s debut hit in the genre, Mehta said the comedy is “an absolute gamble”.

“Perhaps you enjoy writing it, but you don’t know how it might look on the screen. There is no greater feeling of falling than seeing a blow miss its mark. This risk is always there, which is why every director who has tried this genre has said that it is really difficult to pull off. But in Jugjugg Jeeyo, everything fell into place perfectly,” he added.

Mehta said that comedy comes naturally to him, but it is too early in his career to name any genre as his “strength”.

“I was drawn to Good Newwz and Jugjugg Jeeyo because of their stories. In fact, I even made a short film in the Netflix anthology Ajeeb Daastaans which was pretty dark. I’m still too young in my career to feel like “this genre is my forte”. I hope I don’t get it because I want to keep experimenting with my work. The next genre I want to try is action. It’s a genre that I like to watch, but I just haven’t found a theme to stage it. I’m working on one, but let’s see where it goes. These big, happy films came about quite by accident.”
