A security officer stands guard as people look at an overturned SUV that was destroyed yesterday during farmers’ protests in the Tikonia district of Lahimpur Kheri district.

Samyukt Kisan Morcha on Sunday “warned” the Center and the Uttar Pradesh government that the deadline for the dismissal and arrest of Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Mishra would be October 11, or he would launch staged protests against the violence in Lakhimpur-Heri.

SKM issued an ultimatum earlier this week asking the government to take action against MoS Home Ajay Mishra by October 11, if they fail, they will begin a phased program of protest against the violence in Lahimpur Kheri.

“Justice is clearly compromised because Ajay Mishra is a minister in the Union government,” said SKM, which has 40 farmers’ unions spearheading campaigning against farm laws.

“SCM is warning the government of India and the government of Uttar Pradesh that the deadline for October 11, specified by them, will expire. The arrest and dismissal of Ajay Mishra is expected in addition to the arrests of all those responsible for the massacre of farmers in Lakhimpur-Kheri, ”it added. …

The son of Trade Union Minister Ajay Mishra, who was arrested in connection with the Lahimpur Kheri violence, was detained for 14 days and quarantined on Covid at the Lahimpur Kheri District Jail, officials said Sunday.

Four of the eight people killed in the Lahimpur Kheri riots were farmers, allegedly hit by a vehicle carrying BJP workers. The angry farmers then allegedly lynched several people in their cars. Other victims included two BJP workers and their driver.

Farmers claimed that Ashish Mishra was in one of the vehicles, a claim that he and his father reject, who say they can provide evidence to prove he was at the event at the time.

Farmers’ unions have announced that if the government does not accept their demands by October 11, they will remove the Shahid Kisan Yatra from Lahimpur Kheri along with the ashes of the dead farmers.

SKM also called for rail rock protests across the country from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on October 18 and a mahapanchayat in Lucknow on October 26.

“Planning, meetings are being held in various states to implement SKM’s call for justice over the massacre of farmers in Lahimpur-Kheri,” SKM said in a statement Sunday.

SCM noted that Ajay Mishra, who continues to serve as a minister in the Modi government as well as the interior government, is completely “untenable and unthinkable.”

“It is clear that the House of MoS has played a role in inciting hatred and disharmony, in conspiracy and murder, as well as in harboring criminals and trying to obstruct justice and falsifying / hiding evidence,” the statement said.
