‘Lata Mangeshkar didn’t celebrate when she won the Bharat Ratna but…’: Brother Hridyanath Mangeshkar

Lata Mangeshkar’s brother, friend Ridyanath Mangeshkar, spoke about moments in the life of the acclaimed singer at Naam Reh Jaayega, the grand finale of which will take place on Sunday. The show is a musical tribute to the singer, who died in February.

Speaking of Lata MangeshkarIn the process, Usha’s sister said that she would receive feedback on each of her songs from their sister, Mina. She said, “Mina-tai always stayed with Lata-didi during the recording. After recording in the studio, Lata-di asked Ming-tai what she thought of the song. She gave the go-ahead for the song only after Mina’s approval. She trusted her a lot.”

Her brother Hridinath said that she cared a lot about her family. Giving an example, he said, “She always wanted me to win an award, that was her dream. When she won the Bharat Ratna she didn’t celebrate it, but when I got the Padma Shri she celebrated it like a holiday.”

Earlier, Asha Bhosle also spoke about Lata. “Lata Didi was only four years older than me. She would say that those children who drink the water that touched their parents’ feet will reach heights in life. Once, when we were living in Kolhapur, she asked me to bring some water in a bowl and poured it on the feet of my parents, who were fast asleep. Then, pouring it into our palms, we both swallowed the water. This generation will not do that. They will ask you to wash your hands and give them water,” Bhosle said at the Dinanata Mangeshkar awards ceremony, where the prime minister Narendra Modi was congratulated.
