Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi hit Modi’s government on Saturday with terrorist attack on an Assam rifle convoy in Manipurarguing that the incident “once again proves” its inability to defend the nation.
He also expressed his condolences to the families of those killed in the attack.
“The terrorist attack on the army convoy in Manipur proves once again that the Modi government is unable to defend the nation. My condolences to the martyrs and my condolences to their families. The nation will remember your sacrifice, ”he tweeted in Hindi.
The commander of Assam’s Huga Rifle Battalion, Colonel Viplav Tripati, his wife and son, and four paramilitaries were killed in an ambush in Manipur on Saturday morning as a result of renewed violence by militants in the border state.
Other congressional leaders, including Ashok Gelot and Jayram Ramesh, also condemned the attack and demanded that action be taken against those behind it.
“We strongly condemn the cowardly attack on an Assam rifle convoy in Churachandpur, Manipur, which killed five brave military personnel and two family members. We welcome their martyrdom and express our sincere condolences to the families of the victims, ”Chief Minister of Rajasthan Gehlot said on Twitter.
“This is absolutely shocking and deeply sad! I hope the perpetrators will soon be brought to justice, ”said former trade union minister Jairam Ramesh.
Tripathi’s convoy was targeted at the village of Sehkan in the Churachandpur region by alleged militants from the Kangleipaka People’s Revolutionary Party (PEPAK), a militant group in Manipur demanding a separate homeland.
There were explosions of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) before Assam’s gunmen engaged in gunfire with the militants.
