Reigning champion Daniil Medvedev booked himself a spot in the ATP Finals after beating Kasper Ruud 6-4, 6-2 on Saturday.

Medvedev lost just five points on his serve en route to the first set, three of which came in the fourth game after he had already broken Ruud in the previous game.

Overcoming resistance

Medvedev put an end to Ruud’s brave resistance when he interrupted the serve on the third try in a long fifth game of the second set, a 13-point exchange that put him in an ideal close-out position.

He then went through his serve game to make it 4-2 in the set, and pressured Ruud again in the next game, eventually breaking down again to set up a simple serve game and close the match.

Results: Semi-finals: Daniil Medvedev will play with Kasper Ruud 6: 4, 6: 2.

Green group: Novak Djokovic – Cameron Norrie 6-2, 6-1
