4 people were killed in a plane crash on Beaver Island in Michigan.

Four of the five passengers on the commuter plane died Saturday afternoon when it crashed on an island in Lake Michigan, authorities said. According to the Charlevoix County Sheriff, the plane crashed at the airport on Beaver Island, west of Mackinaw City.

The identities of the people on the plane were not immediately revealed, and there was no initial indication of the circumstances of the crash.

The Coast Guard, serving the Great Lakes region, tweeted that the crew had carried out a medical evacuation of a man and an 11-year-old girl. They were taken to the hospital in the village of Petoski.

The Britten-Norman twin-engine aircraft flew from Charlevoix in Michigan’s lower peninsula, the FAA said in a statement.

The FAA said it will take part in an investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board.
