Harshala’s 2:25 played a pivotal role in India’s seven-wicket victory in the match and, as a result, a flawless 2-0 lead in a three-game streak.
Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir was very impressed with debutant Harshal Patel’s performance in the second T20I against New Zealand on Friday at the JSCA stadium in Ranchi. His 2 of 25 played a key role in India’s victory with seven wickets in the game and, as a result, a flawless 2-0 lead in a series of three matches.
Patel, the 2021 IPL winner wearing a purple cap, received his debut cap from former Indian pacer Ajit Agarkar after Mohammed Siraj suffered an arm injury. The same weapon with slower deliveries – which transferred its 32 wickets at IPL 2021, played a role in the firing of Glenn Phillips (34) and Daryl Mitchell (31).
“Harshal Patel was incredible. It never looked like he was playing his first game. Very impressed with his efforts. This is what 8-10 years of first class cricket and a great IPL season can do to you.
“You play your first game for India, you know your game much better. You are no longer a rookie and if you did it in the IPL, which is high quality cricket, when you have such success you will come here and feel like you can keep doing the same.
“This is what Harshal did tonight. I’m very happy for him because he performed on the big stage today, ”Gambhir said on Star Sports.
Following an impressive performance, the debutant was recognized as the Best Man of the Match.
“It’s a great feeling to play for the country. I love this game and the ultimate goal for any player is to play as a country, it’s a great honor, it’s a privilege, and I’m not going to take it for granted.
“Rahul (Dravid) sir always told me that once you’re done, you should go there and enjoy the game. I came here after a good IPL, so this is a nice moment for me,” Patel told Star Sports
