WhatsApp testing feature to allow users to react with any emoji: Report

WhatsApp recently added a feature that allows users to respond to messages with emoji, just like other Meta-owned social media platforms like Instagram. Currently, you can respond to WhatsApp messages by choosing one of six different emojis. But according to WaBetaInfo, that should change as WhatsApp is reportedly testing a feature that will give users access to their entire emoji library in order to respond to messages.

Meta-owned Instagram and Messenger currently allow users to respond to posts with a similar set of six emoji. But on both of these platforms, there is a plus sign at the end of the emoji set. Once the user clicks on this, they will be able to respond to the message with any emoji from the full emoji library.

WaBetaInfo originally reported some references to a similar ability when reactions to messages initially rolled to whatsapp beta for android but still haven’t been able to confirm this. But with the WhatsApp for Android beta update, the ability to choose any emoji from the entire library becomes clear.

Screen recordings obtained by WhatsApp’s information portal show how users can click the plus sign next to an emoji set to access the full emoji library.

The instant messaging service recently tested a feature that allows users to view whatsapp status updates directly from the chat. This was another feature that seemed to come straight from Instagram. Once this update becomes more widespread, users will no longer have to go to the Status tab to view the stories of others. This could potentially push more users to view WhatsApp status updates. While many of WhatsApp’s recent updates and features seemed to be aimed at improving user privacy and security, some, such as reacting to emoji and the chat stories feature, seemed to be aimed at increasing user engagement.
