40% teaching positions vacant in 14 central universities: govt


Fourteen of the 44 central universities have more than 40 percent teaching vacancies, the Minister of Education Dharmendra Pradhan reported by Rajya Sabha on Thursday. These include the University of Delhi and the University of Allahabad, the latter with over 70% of vacant teaching positions.

As of April 1 this year, more than 6,000 of the approximately 19,000 teaching positions in 44 central universities are vacant. The University of Delhi has the largest number of vacancies – 846 out of 1706. On Thursday, the ministry also informed the Upper House that the posts of 22 vice-rectors of central universities are vacant.
