The number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Africa reached 8,383,097 as of Sunday afternoon, according to the African Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC).
The African CDC, the African Union’s (AU) specialized health agency, reported the continent’s death toll from the pandemic is 213,877. In addition, about 7,733,014 patients on the continent have recovered from the disease, Xinhua News Agency reported.
According to the agency, South Africa, Morocco, Tunisia and Ethiopia are among the countries with the highest number of cases on the continent.
South Africa has the highest number of Covid-19 cases in Africa with 2,911,497 cases, and Morocco, a northern African country, has 938,801 cases as of Sunday afternoon.
According to the African Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the most affected region is southern Africa, followed by northern and eastern parts of the continent, while central Africa is the least affected region on the continent.
