Trinamool Congressmen (TMC) on Friday unanimously elected party head Mamatu Banerjee, who is also the chief minister of West Bengal, chairman of her parliamentary party. Announcing this at a news conference in Delhi, Rajya Sabha member Derek O’Brien said that she has long been the guiding force of the parliamentary TMC party.
“We are just formalizing reality. Our chairman is a seven-time member of parliament. She has a vision to guide the parliamentary party. She has experience and understanding. She guided us anyway, ”he said.
The decision was made at both a conceptual and tactical level, said the Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader.
“She was always in touch. We feel stronger, ”O’Brien said.
He also said that all TMC MPs unanimously chose Banerjee as their leader. Banerjee is not a member of parliament.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said Wednesday that she will meet with President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other leaders during her visit to Delhi next week.
“I will go for 2-3 days (to Delhi). I was given time to meet with the President, Prime Minister, I will meet with them. I also have requests from political leaders. I will try to satisfy, ”Mamata Banerjee said.
