Chhattisgarh: Naxal wanted in more than 2 dozen criminal cases, killed in clash

Police said a Naxal, carrying a 5 lakh bounty on his head and wanted in nearly 25 criminal cases, was shot dead during a clash with security officials in the Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh on Sunday.

According to them, the shootout took place in the forest in Pordem at about 12:30.

According to them, the District Reserve Group (DRG) group came under insurgent fire during an anti-Nazal exercise, after which security personnel began to retaliate.

The rebels later left the site, hiding in dense vegetation in a forest about 400 kilometers from Raipur, he said.

“During a search of the area, security officers found the body of a Naksal, as well as a pistol and other everyday items. The killed personnel were identified as Santos Markam, a member of the Malangir District Rebel Committee. He had a cash reward of 5 lakhs on his head, ”said Dantevada, Police Superintendent Abhishek Pallava.

He added that about 25 criminal cases have been registered in the Aranpur police station against the murdered Naksala.
