Schools and colleges in the capital will open November 29, Environment Minister Gopal Rai said Wednesday. Schools in the city have been closed since November 13 due to high levels of pollution. On November 17, the Delhi government extended the suspension of face-to-face studies until further notice.

At a press conference, the Minister of the Environment said that the decision to reopen schools was taken as air quality in Delhi has improved. “Schools, colleges, libraries and other educational institutions will reopen on Monday,” the minister said, adding that government agencies that were working from home could start working from the office.

At a press briefing, he urged government officials to use public transport as often as possible.

Delhi averaged 290 AQI points on Tuesday, the best since November 1, official figures show. But the air quality is still in the “bad” category. India Meteorological Department officials said wind gusts of up to 20 km / h on Sunday and 25 km / h on Monday resulted in marked improvements in air quality and visibility.

A group of 140 parents in the country’s capital wrote to Vice Governor Anil Bayjal asking him to intervene in opening schools, PTI reported.
