V Narendra Modi The government has established peace and political stability in the northeast to create an investment climate in the region, Interior Minister Amit Shah said Thursday.

“Today, all governments in the Northeast are working with a full majority. The elections are held peacefully. V BjpThe Northeastern Democratic Alliance (NEDA) today leads all eight governments in the region. Residents of the Northeast accepted Modiji and gave up 19 of the 24 seats in the BJP region. Of the 498 MLAs in the region, 350 come from NEDA, ”Shah said, addressing virtually an assembly of industrialists under the auspices of the Indian Chamber of Commerce.

“If a place needs industrial growth, peace will take peace. He will need political stability, an environment for growth. This is the environment that the BJP government has created in the region over the past seven years, ”Shah said.

The Minister of Internal Affairs said that without the development of the North-East it is impossible to imagine the development of the East. He said that before independence, Assam’s per capita income was the highest in the country and that his government is working to bring it back to that level.

Over the past seven years, the government has made huge changes in the development of the region’s infrastructure, he said.

“I tell you today, in 2024, when we go to the people to get their votes, every capital city in the region will be linked to an airport. Previously, there were only two of them. Today, seven of the eight states are connected to railways, and several national highways have already been completed. Between 2014 and 2021, Rs 2.65,513 crore was spent exclusively on infrastructure. Over the past seven years, the budget of the Northeast has doubled, ”Shah said.

When asking industry leaders to invest in the Northeast, Shah said the region has great potential for the IT industry as it currently has the same connectivity as the rest of the country. He said that it has been endowed with natural beauty to attract tourists from all over the world and could also become the center of organic food in the country.

“Please look to the northeast from a different perspective. Understand the changes that have occurred there. I know that investments are not made out of emotion. But the atmosphere necessary for investment has already been created there. Now is the right time to invest in the Northeast, ”Shah said.

The interior minister also highlighted the gap between the heart of the northeast and the center of the rest of India, which he said his government is working to bridge.

“I am, perhaps, the only leader of the All-Indian Party who crossed the North-East by road. The northeast is important to us. There must be a sense of unity between the Northeast and the rest of India. … Until 2014, there was an attempt to divide hearts between the Northeast and the rest of India. In such a situation, the development of the North-East was impossible. After the government of Narendra Modi came to power, his first job was to bridge the gap between hearts, ”Shah said.

The interior minister said that over the past seven years, Prime Minister Modi has traveled 50 times to the northeast and slept 12 times. “Gradually, the work on establishing a connection between the heart and the North-East was completed. There was a time when the Northeast was known for violence, extremism, disputes, floods, corruption and drugs. Today we are talking about connectivity, employment, electricity production, increasing forest cover and ending floods, ”he said.

Shah said the government also worked hard to bring peace to the region, where it signed a land border agreement with Bangladesh, ended the blockade of Manipur, signed a peace agreement with NLFT, resolved the long-standing problem of Bru refugees, and organized the surrender of several insurgents. groups through the Bodo Peace Agreement and similar surrenders were reached through the Karbi-Anglong deal.

“From 2007 to 2014, 385 citizens died annually (in the region). Between 2019 and 2021, there were on average two citizens per year. Over the past two years, 3,922 insurgents have laid down their arms and 4,000 weapons have been handed over by the police. The states and the Center together have allocated 12,000 rupees for their rehabilitation, ”he said.

Speaking about the importance of the region and its diversity, Shah said: “The Northeast is bigger than UP. It has an international border of 5,000 km and is in contact with five countries. The Northeast is one of 18 biodiversity hotspots in the world. We have to sell it. A quarter of the wooded part of India is in the northeast. These are the lungs of India. There are over 270 different communities and over 185 dialects in the region. Using this, some people have turned the Northeast into a difficult region. ”
