ARIS took third place in the most difficult category of the competition at America’s Cup at Cosmodrome 2021… Having successfully built its first sonic rocket suitable for a hybrid rocket engine, it has been evaluated for its performance under real-world conditions compared to 14 other papers from universities around the world.
A recording from ARIS, titled Project PICCARD, demonstrated that a rocket with a 4 kg payload could be launched 30,000 feet into the air, with all parts safely recovered after flight. Its characteristics represent both the ecological and economical future of space exploration, as all parts can be reused.
The rocket was made possible with sponsor support to provide radio frequency communications for the rocket’s telemetry and avionics systems. As the main sponsor of RF communications solutions, HUBER + SUHNER has maintained the trajectory and accuracy of ARIS missiles during launch and flight, as well as the safe return of the missile to its home position.
Xeno Mayenberg, PICCARD Project Manager at ARIS, said: “We are delighted that ARIS students are recognized for their technical innovations that have taken the aerospace industry to new heights. As with all competition entries, our rocket would not have been possible without the support of our sponsors such as HUBER + SUHNER, our primary supplier of components and expertise in RF technology. ”
Roman Buff, Vice President Aerospace for HUBER + SUHNER, commented: “We are very proud to sponsor the efforts of future engineers to develop further innovations and new opportunities in the aerospace industry. This is important to help the emerging market for launch systems in Europe grow. Our engineering team worked closely with the ARIS team to share their knowledge and experience with the students and provide them with customized RF communications solutions to build the rocket. ”
HUBER + SUHNER is the silver sponsor of the PICCARD project and has provided ARIS with RADOX coaxial cables and cables, as well as adapters, connectors and other solutions from their leading manufacturers. RF product portfolio.
ARIS is the student association of the ETH University in Zurich, Switzerland. A team of over 50 volunteer students from various Swiss universities worked on the PICCARD rocket project, named after the Swiss explorer, inventor and physicist Auguste Picard.
