The Regional Passport Office (RPO) told the Bombay High Court on Monday that it would “urgently” decide on an extension Kangana Ranautpassport after the actor has made the necessary corrections in his application for a key travel document. Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Anil Singh, who represented RPO, told SS Judges Shinde and Revati Mohite-Dere that the application that Ranaut had filed with the passport office in Mumbai contained factual inconsistencies.
He said that, for example, her statement said that criminal cases were opened against her.
However, only the FIR has been registered against her, and a criminal case has not yet begun in the case, Singh said.
Singh told HC that if Ranaut’s attorney, Rizwan Siddikee’s attorney clarifies the same in court, and if the actor makes the necessary corrections to his statement, the passport office will consider her request and make a prompt decision according to the procedure. The bench accepted Singh’s statement.
“The ASG scientist on the instructions states that the statement does not mention the correct facts, since the said statement indicates that criminal cases are being conducted against the applicant (Ranauta), while in fact only FIRs are registered against the applicant,” HK noted.
“He (Singh) argues that in the event that an educated lawyer speaking for the applicant is ready to make a statement that no criminal proceedings have been brought against the applicant, and to correct the pending application to the Defendant’s Passport Authority, that body is ready. immediately consider the application for renewal of the passport in accordance with the Passport Law / Rules / Procedure, ”the Civil Code says.
Siddiqi’s lawyer then clarified that no criminal case had been opened against Ranaut. He also agreed to make the necessary corrections to Ranaut’s statement.
Earlier this month, Ranaut filed a temporary application with HC, which said she needed to travel to Budapest, Hungary this month to shoot her upcoming film Dakkad, and therefore needed to renew her passport.
In his request, the actor stated that the passport office refused to renew on the grounds that she and her sister Rangoli Chandel had registered FIRs against them last year with the Bandra suburb police on charges of instigating mutiny and alleged hate tweets.
In her request, she said that RPO opposed the renewal or reissue of her passport because of the specified FIR.
At a previous hearing last week, Siddiqi’s lawyer said the film had already been scheduled to shoot and its producers were losing money due to filming delays due to the actor’s inability to travel to Budapest.
On Monday, a panel of judges Shinde and Mohite-Dere accepted the statements of ASG Singh and Siddiqi’s lawyer and, accordingly, quashed Ranaut’s interim statement.
“In light of the statement made by Mr Siddiqi, the applicant’s educated lawyer, Mr Anil Singh, who has come to know ASG, argues that the decision on the petitioner’s application for renewal of the passport will be reviewed as soon as possible in accordance with the relevant provisions. Law / Regulations / procedures for the passport “, – said in the message.
