Manchester United completed pass England Striker Jadon Sancho of the Bundesliga team Borussia Dortmund, the Premier League club announced on Friday.
The two clubs reached a transfer agreement earlier this month, with Dortmund saying United will pay € 85 million ($ 100 million) for the 21-year-old.
“I will always be grateful to Dortmund for providing me with the opportunity to play football for the first team, although I always knew that I would one day return to England,” said Sancho, a former youth player for Manchester City, United’s rival. …
“The chance to join Manchester United is a dream come true and I just can’t wait to play in the Premier League.” Sancho became United’s # 1 transfer last year, but the clubs were unable to agree on the fee.
He scored 16 goals and made 20 assists in 38 games for Dortmund in all competitions in the 2020-21 season, forming a deadly alliance with Norway striker Erling Haaland.
The duo helped Dortmund qualify for the Champions League, finishing third in the Bundesliga and also winning the German Cup.
Sancho has made 22 appearances for England since his debut in 2018, but only played three for Gareth Southgate’s squad in Euro 2020, where he lost to Italy on penalties in the final.
He was one of only three black England players who missed a penalty kick in the final and subsequently suffered racist harassment online. The comments prompted a police investigation and widespread condemnation.
The addition of Sancho will strengthen United’s right wing as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side will fight for the Premier League title after finishing second last season, 12 points behind champions Manchester City.
They kick off their new league campaign with a home match against Leeds United on 14 August.
