Naomi Osaka’s opening match pushed back a day

Naomi Osaka of Japan has postponed her first Olympic women’s singles match to a day on Sunday at the request of Tokyo 2020 organizers, the International Tennis Federation confirmed. Reuters

Four-time Grand Slam champion Osaka, who is returning to tennis after a two-month hiatus in mental health, was set to kick off the Olympic competition Saturday against Chinese Saisai Zheng at the main court at Ariake Tennis Park.

“The organizers of Tokyo 2020 have asked to reschedule her match until Sunday,” said an ITF spokesman.

The reason for the switch was not specified.
