Previously, exams were supposed to start in June 2021, but have been postponed due to growth coronavirus cases. This happened due to pandemic and a surge in cases where NIOS announced the cancellation of the 10th grade and 12 examinations (State examination in theory and practice of secondary courses). A similar move to abolish class 12 exams and class 10 exams has been taken by councils such as the CBSE, CISCE, and other state councils.
NIOS, formerly known as the National Open School, was established as an autonomous institution in 1989 by the Union’s Ministry of Human Resources Development. NIOS conducts Class 12 exams twice a year in Block 1 and Block 2 sessions, usually in April / May and October / November, respectively.
