Oppo announced a global version of its new ColorOS 12 software shell. ColorOS 12 will be based on Android 12 and will hit select Oppo phones later this year. The skin was previously announced in China.
Oppo has also announced beta versions of ColorOS 12 for some of its devices, and users of these smartphones will be able to immediately try out ColorOS 12 on their phones. The new update contains an updated user interface (user interface), smoother operation and “features that increase everyday productivity,” Oppo says.
ColorOS 12: What’s New?
ColorOS 12 includes many of the standard Android 12 features such as the Material You theme based on wallpaper. The skin also adds new 3D icons with new animations. Oppo also announced Omoji, a proprietary implementation of custom emoji that uses your facial data and algorithms to create a custom animated avatar that can then be used in emoji.
ColorOS 12 also includes PC Connect, which allows users to easily transfer data between their PC and the ColorOS 12 device. There is also a new smart sidebar to help users with elements such as translation.
Oppo also claims the new skin contains all of Android 12’s security and privacy features, including a new privacy dashboard. Also included are approximate location indicators for both microphone and camera.
Oppo begins rolling out ColorOS 12 in select countries including Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia. In India, the update will first hit the Reno series starting with Reno6 Pro 5G, Reno6 Pro Diwali Edition and Reno6 5G. Implementation of other supported models will continue until 2021 and 2022.
