Rajasthan State Education Minister Govind Singh Dotasra on Thursday said on Facebook that a decision was made to reopen schools in the state at a cabinet meeting on August 2.
“At today’s cabinet meeting, it was decided to reopen all schools in the state from August 2,” the Minister of Education said in a Facebook post originally written in Hindi.
However, it is unclear for which classes the state government decided to reopen schools. Many other states have opted to open high school-only schools. Lessons for others will continue online, students in the states have been told.
Classroom teaching has been hit hard during the COVID-19 pandemic. Schools have been closed since March 2020. Schools in several states reopened briefly earlier this year and had to close again due to a sharp increase in COVID-19 cases.
Many students welcomed the Rajasthani government’s decision to reopen schools.
