Shahid Kapoor says remake is harder than original film

Bollywood star Shahid Kapoor, who starred in two Telugu remakes “Kabir Singh” and “Jersey,” said on Tuesday that the remake is more difficult to play than the original characters. The 40-year-old actor achieved immense commercial success with the 2019 film Kabir Singh, a Hindi remake of the 2017 Telugu film Arjun Reddy starring Vijay Deverakonda. Shahid is now awaiting the release of Jersey, a remake of the film of the same name by actor Nani.

“I realized that making a remake is very difficult, and sometimes even more difficult than making an original character, because you have to make it fresh, it cannot look like copy-paste. You have to rediscover it anew for yourself, ”Shahid said. The reporters are here at the Jersey trailer launch event.

After comparing work in the original film and the remake, the actor said that he was involved in some of the original films that turned out to be “chilling” and that the remakes were “useful” in a way.

“I’ve been a member of several films that I thought would be in a certain way, and then when I saw them I thought, ‘Am I really signing this film? “I would open the script again to confirm this. So I had very terrible experiences. So, I have to admit that being part of the remake is definitely rewarding as an actor. You understand what this story is and how the director wants it. to express yourself by bringing this story together and embodying your vision in it, “he added.

Jersey tells the story of a talented but unsuccessful cricketer who decides to return to the field at the age of about 30, driven by a desire to represent the Indian cricket team and fulfill his son’s wish for a jersey.

Gautam Tinnanauri, author of the 2019 original film, which won two National Film Awards, including Best Telugu Feature Film, also directed a Hindi version.

Shahid said that he trained in cricket for several months to get used to his character.

Having played a lot of cricket during his school years, the actor said that although the experience came in handy, “there is still a lot of work to be done.” “I’m 40 years old, so it hurts a lot, everything starts hurting. You are not 20 years old, you cannot take a bat and start playing, cricket is a completely different skill, and cricket is the most popular sport in the world. “We take our cricket very seriously,” he said.

Shahid shared that he trained in the nets for four months before starting filming for Jersey, and played again for two and a half months when the team resumed filming in Mohali after isolation was lifted due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“I can proudly say that there is no frame in the film that would have been shown without the seasonal ball, we have no computer shots … We have worked very hard to give the authenticity of the sports part. … “

Basically, Kapoor said Jersey is not just a sports drama, but a story of human triumph. “You should always pursue your dreams and it’s never too late. Age is never an obstacle, and this film is about that, ”he added.

The film also stars Mrunal Thakur and Pankaj Kapoor.

Shaheed, who is reuniting with his father and seasoned actor Kapoor for Jersey, said working with his father is scary, especially when he belongs to the same profession. The real duo of father and son previously shared screen space in the films “Mausam” (2011) and “Shaandaar” (2015).

“Working with him is still nervous, but working with him is a pleasure. He doesn’t scare me, bullying is the wrong word. When you respect and respect someone so much, you want to be the Best.

“As an actor, it is amazing to be in the same frame as a great actor, regardless of whether he is my father or not. We are talking about two people who stand in the frame as actors and honestly see what he is doing with his skill. was a great learning experience for me, ”he added.

“Jersey”, presented by Allu Arvind with the support of Aman Gill, Dil Raju and S. Naga Wamsi, is due out on December 31, 2021.
