Chandigarh police registered FIRs against unidentified individuals on charges of violating COVID-19 rules during the ceremony to nominate Navjot Singh Sidhu as head of the Punjab Congress.
Police said Saturday that a case was filed under section 188 (disobeying an order duly promulgated by a government official) of the Indian Penal Code and the Disaster Relief Act.
According to them, the case was brought against unidentified individuals who came from different parts of the Punjab and gathered here in the Punjab Bhavan Congress.
They did not comply with social distancing norms, and also did not wear masks, the police added.
According to them, the case was registered at the police station in Sector 11.
Dozens of congressional supporters gathered at the Punjab Congress Bhavan on Friday for the ceremony of Sidhu’s appointment as President of the Punjab Pradesh Congressional Committee.
