Trinamool Congress on Saturday nominated former bureaucrat Jowhar Sirkar as its candidate for the upcoming Rajya Sabha by-election in the state.
On July 16, the Election Commission announced that the poll for the seat of the Rajya Sabha from West Bengal, vacated by Dinesh Trivedi earlier this year, will take place on August 9.
“We are pleased to nominate Jahar Sirkar to the upper house of parliament,” the party said in a statement.
We are delighted to nominate Mr. @jawharsircar in the upper house of parliament.
Sirkar spent almost 42 years in the civil service and was also the former CEO of Prasar Bharati. His invaluable contributions to community service will help us serve our country even better!

Sirkar spent nearly 42 years in the civil service and was also the former CEO of Prasar Bharati, the state’s ruling party said.
“His contributions to community service will help us serve our country even better,” the statement said.
Responding to his appointment, Sirkar said: “I was a bureaucrat. I am not a political person, but I will work for the development of people and raise issues concerning the masses in parliament. “
State recourse to the Rajya Sabha chair will be held if the opposition Bjp nominates its candidate for the same, otherwise the TMC candidate will be declared elected without objection.
